After uniting with the central Saubhagya Yojana, the scheme got boosted.
But current changes indicate that there is something for Above Poverty Line households as well. The Bihar administration has notified that all APL families will be eligible to receive electricity connections at a less price. Other than that, if a family does not have any male member of 16 to 59 years, and is handled by a woman, accordingly that home will receive free electricity connection. And If the senior male member of the household is handicapped, then he will receive electricity free of cost.

Objectives of Ghar Ghar Bijli Yojana
The main purpose of the Ghar Ghar Bijli Yojana is to give free-of-cost electricity connections to every home in the state. The homes which do not have an electricity connection yet will be included under the scheme. The government intended to give electricity connections to 50 Lakh homes under the Ghar Ghar Bijli Scheme. The Yojana is of the 7 schemes to be undertaken under the Seven Nischay schemes.
About 50% of APL families in rural Bihar who do not have electricity connections are under the free electricity connection plan. The BPL (Below Poverty Line) families in the state are already being covered under the Central Government’s Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana.

Cost of Connection
The connections under Ghar Ghar Bijli Yojana would be given for free, no fees will be taken from the applicants. But the power consumption bill will have to be paid by the applicants. When any beneficiary would not want to take the power connection, he/she should give it recorded as a hard copy alongside the explanation.
